Economic Coordination Committee endorsed the Complete Payment to Huawei for Islamabad Safe City Project

Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) endorsed a valuable grant of $6.170 million (roughly Rs1.72 billion) to Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., settling the leftover 5% of the agreement cost for the Islamabad Safe City Project.
Background
The Islamabad Safe City Project, started in 2011 and sent off in June 2016, expected to improve the security framework of Pakistan’s capital through the installation of roughly 1,900 surveillance cameras and the establishment of a command-and-control center.
The project’s underlying expense was assessed at Rs11.9 billion; notwithstanding, in December 2015, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) reconsidered the cost to Rs15.9 billion because of extra charges and obligations.
In spite of its ambitious goals, the project has confronted analysis for not completely accomplishing its goals. Reports demonstrate that since its inauguration, the system has struggled to prevent incidents or assist significantly in criminal investigations.
The new payment endorsement by the ECC follows orders from the Islamabad High Court to clear outstanding liabilities with Huawei Technologies, guaranteeing compliance with contractual obligations and intending to improve the project’s functional adequacy.
